    Where and when to apply for your visa


    1.  Visa short stay (Schengen states) and Visa long stay (Belgium)

    a)  All depends on the place(s) you want to visit. If you intend to visit only one Schengen country, you must apply at the Embassy or Consulate of that particular country. You should apply at the Embassy or Consulate responsible for the state where you live.
    If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country which is your main destination.
    If you intend to visit several Schengen countries but do not have a main destination, you should apply for a visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country which is your first point of entry.

    b)  If, according to the above regulation, you have to apply at the Belgian Embassy or Consulate in India, all depends on the place where you are registered and / or living.

    c)  Non-Indian citizens wishing to apply for a visa to Belgium or the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will have to provide proof of their official residence in India. Same rules as above will determine as to where they should submit their application.

    2. Where to go? At the Embassy/Consulate or the Visa application center ?

    For your convenience, visa applications are to be forwarded to the visa section via the Visa application center.

    Applications can only be lodged on appointment at the visa section of the Embassy in New Delhi, or the Consulate General in Mumbai.

    Holders of official and diplomatic passports have to apply directly at the visa section of the Embassy in New Delhi, or the Consulate General in Mumbai.

    3.1.1. Bangladesh

    Applicants for a Schengen visa (destination: Belgium/Luxembourg) in Bangladesh must file their application with the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka, which is representing Belgium. In case of rejection, the applicant can refer his case to the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi. Personal appearance is, in this case, mandatory.

    Applicants for resident visas must file their application with the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi. Personal appearance is, in this case, mandatory.

    All applications have to be directed through the Belgium VFS Office.
     

    3.1.2. Sri Lanka

    Applicants for a Schengen visa (destination: Belgium/Luxembourg) in Sri Lanka must file their application with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Colombo, which is representing Belgium. In case of rejection, the applicant can refer his case to the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi. In that case applications have to be directed through the Belgium VFS Office. Personal appearance is, in this case, mandatory.

    Applicants for resident visas can direct their applications directly to the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi, or hand them in through the Honorary Consulate of Belgium in Colombo. The Embassy in New Delhi may request personal appearance.


    3.1.3. Nepal

    Applicants for a Schengen visa (destination: Belgium/Luxembourg) in Nepal must file their application with the Embassy of Germany in Kathmandu, which is representing Belgium. In case of rejection, the applicant can refer his case to the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi. Personal appearance is, in this case, mandatory.

    Applicants for resident visas must file their application with the Embassy of Belgium in New Delhi. Personal appearance is, in this case, mandatory.

    All applications have to be directed through the Belgium VFS Office.
