Choice of Language for the Handling of your Visa Application

The Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs has published new regulations regarding the administrative handling of the visa files, in compliance with the Belgian legislation on the use of the languages (1966).

    For SHORT STAY visa (C-visa):

The applicants don’t need to use the Language Form anymore.

The language in which each applicant fills in his application form will be the language used by the Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs to legally notify its decision to the applicant.

If the applicant fills in his/her application form in English, the Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs will choose the language of handling.

    For LONG STAY visa (D-visa):

Together with his/her Long Stay Visa application (D-visa), each applicant has to provide the language form (see below) duly filled in and signed.

The chosen language will be the language used by the Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs to legally notify its decision to the applicant.

The Belgian Ministry of Home Affairs will choose the language of handling if the applicant forgets to fill in the form, does not wish to fill in the form or chooses “no preference”.

Choices of language are: French, Dutch, German or “no preference”.

Please note these forms cannot be translated.
