In the last five years our economic relations have been marked by an impressive growth rate: since 2002, Belgian exports to South Africa grew by 70%, while South African exports to Belgium grew by 32%.

In 2008, South African exports to Belgium have reached €2 113 million, a 7% increase. For the same period, Belgian exports to South Africa have again grown by 10% to a total of €1 236 million.This accounts for 0.37% of all Belgian exports, ranking South Africa as our 34th client in the world. On the other side, we import 0.58% of our total needs from South Africa, which makes it our 23rd largest supplier.

Belgium is the economic heart of Europe, much like South Africa is the economic hub of Africa. Despite our strong economic ties, more can be achieved still.
