Fellow Belgian expats, Members of the Union francophone des Belges à l'étranger,
Important information for Belgians living abroad has been added to our association's website at www.ufbe.be. This information pertains not only to the upcoming federal elections for the Belgian Parliament which are scheduled for June 10, 2007, but also -and not as widely known yet- to new legislation and regulations with regards to dual citizenship for Belgian nationals.
Information about the June 10 elections is presented in a non-partisan way, with the sole purpose of increasing the knowledge and awareness of our members and all francophone expats who will soon have to fulfill their electoral duty.
Also important news, the voluntary acquisition of another nationality for a Belgian citizen is now possible, with slight variations in terms of the timeframe in which the law becomes effective depending on the country in which one lives. Details are available on the website.
Lastly, for Belgian-born citizens who have lost their Belgian nationality when voluntarily acquiring another nationality, our website also provides information and links to Belgian official websites on how to recover their Belgian nationality.
This information is time-sensitive. Therefore, I would much appreciate your assistance in forwarding it to your own network of Belgian business contacts, friends and family members abroad. They will be grateful.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.
With every best wish, I remain yours.
Sincerely,
Didier Heiremans President Union francophone des Belges a l'etranger 19-f avenue des Arts B - 1000 Brussels Belgium www.ufbe.be
